Rahul Gandhi, a Congress leader seeking re-election from the Wayanad seat in Kerala, has disclosed stock market investments worth Rs 4.3 crore and mutual funds deposits worth Rs 3.81 crore in an affidavit submitted to the Election Commission of India (ECI). His total movable assets amount to Rs 9.24 crore and immovable assets to Rs 11.5 crore.
Gandhi filed his nomination from Wayanad on April 3, having previously won the seat in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls with a significant margin. Single-phase polling in Kerala to elect MPs from its 20 Lok Sabha seats is scheduled for April 26. Nomination papers include affidavits detailing personal wealth, property, and any pending legal cases against the candidate
Investments in Stocks
His largest investment is in the small-cap company Suprajit Engineering, followed by ITC and ICICI Bank.
He holds 4,068 shares in Suprajit, valued at over Rs 16.65 lakh. Over the past year, the stock has yielded returns of nearly 20%. As of today, it was trading at Rs 419.80 on the NSE, down by Rs 3.15 or 0.74%.
He owned 3,039 shares of ITC and 2,299 shares of ICICI Bank, valued at Rs 12.96 lakh and Rs 24.83 lakh, respectively.
Other stocks in his portfolio include Alkyl Amines, Asian Paints, Bajaj Finance, Deepak Nitrite, Divi’s Laboratories, Infosys, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Britannia Industries, and Titan Company.
In terms of market value, Pidilite Industries had the highest value followed by Bajaj Finance and Asian Paints. The market value of his 1,474 shares in Pidilite was Rs 43.27 lakh as of March 15. For Bajaj Finance and Asian Paints, the value of 551 shares and 1,231 shares was Rs 35.89 lakh and Rs 35.29 lakh, respectively, as of the same date.
Rahul Gandhi’s Mutual Fund Holdings
Rahul Gandhi’s mutual fund investments consist of HDFC Small Cap Reg-G, ICICI Prudential Reg Savings-G, PPFAS FCF D Growth, and HDFC MCOP DP GR. Additionally, he possesses sovereign gold bonds valued at Rs 15.21 lakh as of March 15, 2024.
Among his assets are land in Delhi’s Mehrauli jointly owned with sister and Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra. Gandhi also possesses office space in Gurugram, currently valued at over Rs 9 crore. The agricultural land is noted as inherited property, whereas the office space is not.
Rahul Gandhi’s Investments in Sovereign Gold Bonds
As of March 15, 2024, Rahul Gandhi possesses sovereign gold bonds valued at ₹15.21 lakh.
In the affidavit, Gandhi disclosed several police cases against him. These include a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) for allegedly revealing the identity of family members of a rape victim in a social media post. Other cases involve complaints of defamation by BJP leaders and a criminal conspiracy case related to Associated Journals Limited.
In the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections, Gandhi faces competition from CPI leader Annie Raja and Kerala BJP chief K Surendran.
