Today marks the 90th anniversary of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). To celebrate this milestone, Prime Minister Modi has unveiled a commemorative coin worth Rs 90. This coin, made of pure silver and weighing 40 grams, features the bank’s logo on one side and the denomination Rs 90 on the other. It’s worth noting that this is the first time a Rs 90 coin has been issued in the country.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, along with Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das, and other officials, unveiled a special coin marking the Reserve Bank of India’s 90th anniversary.

The coin features the RBI emblem at the center with “RBI@90” below. It also depicts the Lion Capital of the Ashoka Pillar with ‘Satyamev Jayate’ and ‘Bharat’ in Devanagari script, and ‘INDIA’ in English. The reverse side displays ‘Reserve Bank of India’ in both Devanagari and English.

Speaking at the event, PM Modi celebrated the Reserve Bank of India’s 90 years of service, emphasizing its journey through pre and post-independence periods. He praised the RBI’s global reputation for professionalism and dedication, congratulating its staff.

PM Modi highlighted the significance of current policies in shaping the RBI’s future, looking ahead to its centenary in the next decade.

“The next decade holds significant importance for India’s development,” PM Modi remarked, emphasizing the RBI’s commitment to rapid growth, trust, and stability.

Established in 1935 based on the Hilton Young Commission’s recommendations, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) functions as the nation’s central bank. Governed by the RBI Act of 1934, it regulates the banking system and operates from Mumbai since 1937, serving as the policymaking hub under the leadership of the Governor.

Originally private, the RBI became fully government-owned after nationalization in 1949.
