Flipkart has partnered with Axis Bank to introduce the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) service. Initially, it will cater to Android users and facilitate both online and offline payments. With this update, customers can conveniently pay bills and transfer funds directly through the Flipkart app. This service will compete with popular third-party UPI apps like Paytm, PhonePe, Google Pay, and Amazon Pay.

Rajneesh Kumar, Chief Corporate Affairs Officer at Flipkart India, unveiled Flipkart’s UPI handle on Sunday (March 3) on X. The service, in collaboration with Axis Bank, is currently accessible only to Android users. To engage in digital transactions through the Flipkart app, customers can sign up for the Flipkart UPI service using the @fkaxis handle.

The Flipkart UPI service facilitates payments for various products, services, recharges, and bill payments. Additionally, it allows payments outside the Flipkart marketplace through QR code scanning. Flipkart provides incentives such as supercoins, cashback, and vouchers for Flipkart UPI transactions. Users can earn ten supercoins on their initial five scan and pay transactions with a minimum payment of Rs. 100. Furthermore, the Walmart-backed e-commerce company offers a flat Rs. 25 discount on the first Flipkart order.

To activate Flipkart UPI, interested users can navigate to the Scan and Pay option under My UPI in the Flipkart Android app. After selecting their bank, Flipkart will verify the details through an SMS and activate the Flipkart UPI service.

Introducing its own UPI handle enables Flipkart, boasting over 50 crore registered users on its marketplace, to lessen reliance on third-party UPI services like Paytm, PhonePe, Google Pay, and Amazon Pay. This move coincides with the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) imposing a Rs. 5.49 crore penalty on Paytm’s banking arm, Paytm Payments Bank, for alleged money laundering.

Moreover, this development follows Flipkart’s separation of ownership from digital payment company PhonePe, which it acquired back in 2026.

Flipkart UPI enables users to make online payments within the Flipkart app and send money to local vendors, friends, and family using UPI ID, phone numbers, or QR codes. Moreover, the service supports bill payments.

To get started with Flipkart UPI:

  1. Download and install the latest version of the Flipkart app from the Play Store or Apple App Store.
  2. Look for the ‘Flipkart UPI’ banner within the app and tap on it.
  3. Select the option to ‘Add bank account’.
  4. Choose the bank you want to link with Flipkart UPI.
  5. Complete the verification process.
  6. Once verified, users can begin using Flipkart UPI for making payments smoothly.

Initially, the UPI service will be accessible only to Android users.
