Oriana Power Ltd, a prominent renewable energy company in India, is set to unveil a major gigawatt-scale facility in partnership with US-based Splitwaters. This new factory will focus on the production of alkaline electrolyzers and balance-of-plant (BOP) modules, which are pivotal for advancing the company’s green hydrogen and e-fuels initiatives. The facility will be developed in two phases, with the initial 500 MW phase expected to become operational by 2026.
Oriana Power’s Strategic Expansion into Green Hydrogen Production
The upcoming factory represents a significant step in Oriana Power’s strategy to boost the production of green hydrogen and e-fuels, including green ammonia, e-methanol, and green methanol. By establishing this gigawatt-scale facility, Oriana Power aims to enhance its capabilities in producing clean energy carriers, which are crucial for meeting global sustainability goals.
Oriana Power’s collaboration with Splitwaters, a leading US provider of alkaline electrolyzer and BOP equipment, was announced last month. This partnership will leverage state-of-the-art electrolysis technology to achieve efficient hydrogen production from renewable energy sources. The BOP systems are designed to optimize the electrolyzers’ performance by managing critical functions such as water supply, gas separation, and purification.
Anirudh Saraswat, Chief Business Officer of Power, emphasized the significance of this initiative: “The green hydrogen market faces challenges due to high initial costs and long execution timelines. However, Splitwaters’ integrated approach and modular technology effectively address these issues. Our collaboration allows us to deploy advanced technology to produce clean energy carriers at scale, with up to 30% lower capital expenditure compared to other methods.”
Oriana Power’s Global Expansion and Future Outlook
In addition to its domestic advancements, Oriana Power is also working on expanding its green hydrogen and e-fuels projects internationally, particularly in the UK and Europe. This expansion is part of a broader strategy to position the company as a leader in the global clean energy sector.
Saraswat further elaborated on the company’s future prospects: “We anticipate that the benefits from the green hydrogen and e-fuels sector will begin to materialize in the next financial year, and we expect this segment to contribute significantly to our revenues by FY2027.”
The gigawatt-scale factory is not only a testament to Oriana Power’s commitment to renewable energy but also a strategic move to enhance its production capabilities and global reach. By focusing on green hydrogen and e-fuels, Oriana Power is well-positioned to play a crucial role in the transition to a more sustainable energy future.
This ambitious project highlights Oriana Power’s dedication to leveraging cutting-edge technology and strategic partnerships to drive innovation and efficiency in the clean energy sector. With the establishment of this factory, Oriana Power is poised to make a substantial impact on the green energy landscape, reinforcing its position as a key player in the global renewable energy market.
